Introducing CarbonAPI

Hello World! My name is Tom Hallam, and I'm the founder of CarbonTrail and CarbonAPI.

Today I'm writing to announce the official launch of CarbonAPI, almost a year in the making. You can now use CarbonAPI to calculate the emissions of expenses in over 40 countries, documents in a growing list, and soon freight, flight and cloud emissions – all through a simple API or in tools like Excel, OneDrive, Google Sheets, Dynamics Business Central, Xero, and more.

We have emission factor coverage in many countries through our partnerships with thinkstep-anz, Footprintlab, and others: United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, various European countries, China, Taiwan, India, and more.

This is exciting because you now can our AI pipelines to calcualate global emissions in your own products, services, or in your existing workflows. You don't need to export data to yet another system – this is carbon accounting where you already are!

We're going live with the following functionality:

• Supply chain/expense emissions calculations in 46 countries. For launch, this is for English-language expenses only.
• Document emissions calculations - invoices, bills, and receipts. This is available in Australia and New Zealand, currently. We're working on expanding the list of countries as we go.

Coming very soon:

• Supplier-specific factors from Roundarc. We have partnered with Roundarc to deploy a database of over 10,000 company-specific emission factors from around the world.
• Freight and Air Travel APIs. We're working on it
• Cloud emissions. Emissions from AWS cloud usage, with other clouds and bare metal coming soon.
